What, SO what, Now what

What: Well this week has been very challenging, not only physically but mentally. In class we finished up our digital stories. Man I hope ours goes well. After completing the digital story however, I have come to realize how fun it is, but how much work can go into making one. In other classes this week I have been focused on turning in final assignments and studying for finals. I can say I am glad this semester is over. I am sad that it has come to an end in a sense but I'm looking forward to learning more and more about education. The one assignment that we accomplished that was my favorite is the web quest. I think that it is a reasonable assignment and one that most students can enjoy.
SO what: SO after finishing the digital story I think I shall never do another, at least using photo story. I think that it is a very neat assignment but it does require a lot of time and I feel like you don't get that much out of it for the time it takes to put it together. I will however have that knowledge and experience in completing one. I think that by me studying and preparing so much for finals and the last assignments I will be a better teacher. More organized and accomplished.
Now What:
Now I plan on using this course as a source for my classroom. I have learned so much about technology that I will incorporate into my classroom. This will help me to be a more creative teacher as well as team player. I feel as though this has been a course which has challenged me and that I have gained a lot from. While their are things I do not like there are many which I plan on using over and over again.

"My Beliefs"

Technology is a great source to get studnets involved in education now days. Often times teachers do not put forth the effort to create a lesson which uses technology. For some teachers adding technology into a lesson is difficult and they can struggle. Others however love technology and use it as much as possible. For me I feel that technology is a good source to use in the classroom and I would desire to become the teacher who uses it frequently.

Some schools do not offer a lot of technological resources. For this reason I have opted to purchase a few items of my own which we can use inside of the classroom. I think that this will provide students the opportunity to stay involved in school and succeed. While technology is sometimes a struggle for me I know that this is what is necessary for the students of this day and the future to succeed and accomplish great academic goals.

"Lessons Learned"

One of my main concerns as being a new teacher and using the technology is all of the rules that come with using the internet and other technologies inside of the classroom. I have come to find that I know very little about that. Another concern that I have is when the students get stuck or have trouble shooting with the computers will I be able to help? I do think that after watching a few of the videos I can be more confident in my technological abilities.

Another concern which I have is will there be enough time, resources etc to have a lesson with technology? While reading these articles and surveys along with watching the videos I have come to realize a few lessons which I can teach and feel comfortable with. Having the students publish their projects on the web would be a great way to get the students excited to learn, and I feel comfortable teaching this. However, one concern I have is that the risk of publishing a project on their might endanger the students. You would need permission slips from the parents. Also some parents might not agree with that.

"Strengths & Weaknesses"

My strengths and weaknesses according to the UNI survey and NET Standards consist of the following.
Strengths:
1-Operate a multimedia computer system, including installing software, accessing programs or files, saving and deleting files, and organizing folders,
2-Apply technology to develop students' higher order skills and creativity.
3-I have designed authentic learning activities for diverse learners to teach my studnets how to publish their projects on the Web.
Weaknesses:
1-use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.
2- I am aware of video conferencing but have had limited involvement in an interactive session using video conferencing.
3-I understand basic computer terminology when it is used in classes.

Goals which I have set for myself are to use technology for grading and to analyze this data to know what our classroom percentage is. Also I can incorporate collecting data and analyzing it through a science project. I also think that video conferencing might be a factor for me which I learn in my personal life. When family or my husband goes out of town maybe try that until I am more comfortable and then teach a lesson using video conferencing. I will use the gmail tutorial video conferencing to learn more. A goal to learning computer technology is to study it. Understand what the words mean and when talking about computers use the specific terminology instead of the black thing in front of you. Use that to type your words. Instead use the word keyboard. There is a website avaliable that has a video in which you can watch to understand what parts of the computer are.

By using these tutorials, websites, and videos I will become a better teacher. I can explain to my students how to complete a project using video conferencing. This will also help me as a professional because I will constantly be learning and hopefully coming up with new ways to use technology inside of my classroom. These tutorials let me know that I can learn anything about technology through the internet, word of mouth or conferences.

What, So what, Now what (technology lesson plan)

What: The lesson which I incorporated the technology in was India. I had the students go to websites, which I created and posted for them to view. From there they had a question sheet to answer. They visited these 4 websites to find the answers to the questions. Most of the students enjoyed getting out of the classroom but didn't so much care for the actual assignment.
So What: So this is a lesson which I would probably not use again. At least not in this format or with this particular class. However, I have been able to become more comfortable with technology especially after teaching students how to navigate the websites.
Now What: Now that I have experience in teaching a technology lesson I have realized a few things when using technology. Have a back up plan. During the lesson the internet was malfunctioning I had to be quick on my feet to find a solution to the problem. Once I figured out that it only occurred while on one of the web pages I had the students skip those questions that were found on that particular website. I will continue to use technology in my class, I will now have a back up plan as well.

What, So what, Now what

What: This week during class I have really started to realize how much I enjoy being with these kids...for the most part. I think that our lesson this week was a little on the weak side. I realized that what we were teaching was becoming really repetitive for me. I think this is where the creative side of things comes into play. I have also started developing my own teaching style I think that it will be a good start and hopefully I will continue building upon it. I have been feeling really overwhelmed with all the assignments we have on top of observing. Is this how a teacher is really going to feel? Gosh I hope not. Other than that I feel as though this has been a bitter sweet last week. I am sad to leave the kids and really enjoyed teaching them but man am I happy to be able to leave. Some days I thought I was going to die. Our classroom was full of about 10 students that had severe behavioral problems or a physical or mental disorder. This was definitely a challenge at times.
So what:
So now after experiencing all of this I know being a teacher is for sure what I want. I also know I do not want to teacher upper grade levels. I would like to stick with k-4th. This would be ideal for me. I am also hoping that this experience will make me a better teacher in the future. I have a better sense of how to discipline the students as well as reassure them when they are doing the right thing and getting the answers correct. Oh yes and another thing I think that will help me is the communication factor. I was able to communicate a lot better this go around during the week. Not only with my students but with my partner as well. Which is great!
Now what:
Now I get to go back to being a student. Yuck, but I am taking this experience with me and am going to be able to analyze situations better now. Also I am going to be a better teacher through the faculty members teaching me as well as other students and someday my future class. To me this experience has been wonderful. I have laughed, cried been freaking frustrated but overall gained a kind of confidence and professionalism when necessary. I am going to love being a teacher.

What, SO what, NOw what

What:
So this week has been super challenging for me! I feel like I am going to pass out from exhaustion. It just really overwhelming with all the assignments we have to do for school and for student teaching and regularly life things. Well now that I have that off my chest this week has been hectic. At times fun, and other times stressful. I taught five lessons this week. All of them went well. It was interesting we did our integrated technology lesson on Monday. We did a web quest and most of it seemed to go well. The next day I asked my class if they liked it, what they liked etc. I was shocked to hear that most students did not like it. My partner also taught this to another class and most of them said that it was kinda fun activity:). Most said they just liked they went to another classroom but that it was stupid to find answers off of a website. Another lesson I taught that I thought went really well and the students feed back was great was about hinduism. The students created masks, and their own "castes". They said it was fun and it seemed as thought they retained the information.
So What:
So now that this week has passed I have learned a lot about the operation of a school. I have learned that even though one lesson went well with one class it might not with another class. So now I have learned how to alter lessons a little bit better, and I can also think about 2 steps ahead. I also have learned that communication between other teachers is key! In order for our lesson to run smoothly we had to ok it with Mr. Kelly as well as partners. Also I learned that many teachers handle bad behavior situations differently. Seeing different teaching styles has helped me to start to create my own in a sense. I have realized that teaching isn't necessarily black and white. For me at least; for example. I had a student a complete a test and then as a class we did a make up test day where you could make up some of the points you missed. This particular girl did not turn anything in. The next day I asked her and she said oh I didn't think I needed to do it. I again gave her the opportunity to take it home and complete it so she could have a better grade on the test. I told her it was due the next day and if it was me I would do it. The next day she said oh I forgot to my partner. SO my partner told her bring it Monday. I had to go back and tell the girl I'm sorry you didn't turn it in today you can't have credit. I now know how communication, discipline and sometimes giving a student should work.
Now What:
So now that I have all this information does it go on the back burner. Well I hope not but with everything we have it is hard to remember every situation. However I'm recording everything we have done on my time line...it is getting quite large now. I plan on attending more board meetings especially in the Wasatch District. I also plan on having these experiences make me be a better teacher and colleague.

What, So What, Now What

What: This week Larry came and observed me in the classroom! Man was it awful. My class has a lot of behavior problems but after all which teenager likes to listen right? Well the lesson was a review lesson and it just seemed that I had a hard time keeping or getting the students attention. The funny thing is the day before I taught this exact same class and they did great! It was a lot better the first time instead of the second. I have learned a lot this week while observing my teacher. #1 i do not want to teacher upper grades #2 I need to make my "rules/instructions" bullet proof and #3 to have fun. There is also a number of students in this particular classroom with IEP's this has proven to be difficult at times. Randomly one little boy will shout out you need to die! I have learned that in this situation positive reinforcement is good to use.
SO what:
SO after this week I have learned a few things or ways to hopefully make this week a more enjoyable one. First of all I need to have my lessons planned out in more detail and also make sure that I follow through with all the rules which I say. I also feel as though by having this bad experience I will be a better teacher now. I have come up with a few ways to gain back the classes attention. One thing actually that I noticed has worked so far...yes it's corny but hey it works. I say ice cream and they all turn and look at me. I gain there attention back and can continue with the lesson. I explain to them that whenever I say this they are to be quite and look at me. Also I think that having my partner there has helped out quite a bit. I don't feel overwhelmed as much and I assume this is how it will be when I teach with a team.
Now What:
Now I am going to be more confident this week, I'm also going to be more prepared in my lesson planning. I have also gained something and I feel as though this can only help me in my teaching career. I have gained experience and knowledge. I know that I can teach however I also know what grade levels I enjoy the best and which I feel I would gain the most and the students would gain the most out of.

Refelction on Field #1

What:
Wow this week has been crazy, hectic and lots of fun. First of all I went through this week thinking crap how am I going to do this and at the same time thinking wow this is going to be so much fun! I went into field with my partner having all of this knowledge I'd learned in class! I expected I would know how to handle most situations and that the activities that I had come up with were extremely fun! Hahaha was I wrong. As soon as I walked into Mr. Kelly's class I froze, forgot what I was to say and do. However the next day it all came natural and I absolutely love it! I cannot wait to be a teacher. I had an opportunity to already teach a lesson this week and it was fun. It was an art project with leaves and making animals. I thought that the kids had fun and I realized what my future classroom would be like. Easy going, fun and structured. It defiantly helped with my confidence when the teacher complimented my classroom management skills.
SO what:
So now that I now what a "true" classroom is like I feel a lot more prepared for my own. I think that by me being able to watch another teacher use techniques and examples I can learn better. It seems as though there are many obstacles which I haven't thought about such as my team members other teachers and janitorial services. By doing my student teaching I hope that I can gain a better sense of communication. It is hard being with a partner in field because you both have great ideas that you want to try out, but you can only do one. You have to plan times to get together outside of class and other life schedules. For me this has shown to be a struggle. I enjoy my partner as a person but I know it would be hard as teachers.:) I'm hoping to gain a sense of "team work" which seems what some of the faculty in this school are lacking.
Now What:
I plan to go back this week and teacher 3 lessons by myself, math, social studies and a review for a test. I'm nervous but I definitely feel as though this will be a good oportunity for me to "shine". Also I'm trying to figure out how to use technology when it seems there aren't really reliable computers in this particular school. I'm hoping that also I can be a better teacher by being thrown into these situations where I'm required to think on my feet! It will be great!

Video Blog Did you Know

Did you know?
Wow what a cool video, I do feel rather stupid though. I never would have guessed the the U.S. had the lowest number of college graduates. I wouldn't have thought a lot of things on there. One fact that particularly stood out to me was the 70% of 4 year olds have used a computer! CRAZY!!! It just goes to show you that technology is such a big part in learning today. However, also it can possibly be the destruction as well. How sad that could be. I feel that as long as teachers, parents and students are using the internet and computers for good that this world will consistently be growing. As the U.S. we need to step up the standards a bit though, help our world to become even better! I will definitely be showing this to my students and having them do an after right on there thoughts and what they feel the future holds.

What, So what, Now what

What:
This past weeks in class have been extreemely stressful, how will I ever be a teacher a good teacher if I'm already stressed. Somehow I find this new assignment (digital story) very exciting! I'm learning that if I as a teacher can have fun with the assignment most likely my students will as well. While with the digital story your not there you get this sense of being in the story, you are experiencing exactly what is going on. While we watched the digital story it was very touching and emotional to see what some people have gone through in past generations. I think it is important that students can understand this as well. In our other classes this week we have been focusing a lot on field assignments and key things to do. I'm very nervous but I'm excited!!! Blah, we also did a Psychology Exam, wow that was amazing!!! I uh am glad I did well on the other exams.
So What:
I'm learning how to develop a digital sotry so I can basically keep up with my students. The only way to have studnets learn it seems is through technology. I find that if it's anythign to do with the computer it will excite them. I feel like this digital story can be a great way to share history lessons as well as many others. This techonology class is not only helping with my other courses right now but actually in my day to day life. I have recently been playing around with many websites and finding some cool ways to decorate, teach and learn. Basically I love technology!
Now what:
For my future studnets techonolgy I figure will be their life in a sense, I imagine a lot of future assignments will revolve around that as well as other aspects in life such as driving, cooking, job employment etc. I feel as though I am going to be a great teacher...as long as I don't get to over whelmed ha ha. By taking this media course it truly has opened up my eyes to technology and has helped me be computer literate, internet literate and hopefully teacher literate. I will have my future students hopefully create there own digital story with a twist...they will be the characters they will make up the story. We can take pictures in class and they in turn will in a sense teach me about a topic say how a tornado comes about. I think by using multiple methods of teaching it will help students to stay engaged.

Video Blog "Education for All"

I think that this week's video for me was a little emotional. It really broke my heart to think that students are turned away from an education. Realistically I do not think the phone thing would work, however if that is all that you had then so be it. For me this movie has only made me think about how important it is to me to help children gain an education. While this video was sad for me a smile came on m face when they started doing the phone educating, I thought that was very funny and cleaver. It made me think about how over populated schools have become, how do you fix that and still have all students receive and education and with more students more funding is going to be necessary where is that going to come from?

What, So what, Now what

What:
This week in media class I really enjoyed being able to do the vid cast and pod cast. There were a few things that I am struggling with. I cannot seem to get my pod cast onto my classroom web page link....hmm. Other than that I think I have been pretty successful! I think that this would be a great activity for my students to participate in. However I do see a lot of concerns with doing this activity. A permission slip would be necessary in order for the students to put the vid cast on youtube. As a parent I wouldn't want my child to be on the internet, name or no name so I dunno maybe we could make a class video or something. I'll have to brainstorm about that and see how other parents feel as well. Also this week we have learned a lot about what a principle looks for in a teacher. For me this is a very common sense answer, however after looking and thinking more into it there are a ton of questions that have popped up that I haven't thought of before.
So what:
Now that I'm gaining a lot of information about vid casts and pod casts I can create a better classroom management skill, knowledge and fun activities. I would use the pod cast daily so if parents needed some explanations about homework, activities, field trips, etc they would be able to hopefully have access to this through my classroom web page. By allowing another form of communication to parents and students during times which I do not have open for class hours it makes me a better teacher and team member. I also think this would be a fun way to swap ideas between teams, schools and districts. I also feel that now I have more knowledge of how to present myself during an interview with the school principle as well as other collages.
Now What:
Now it is my responsibility to follow through with these ideas and start creating the reality instead of the dream. I feel as though now that I have all of this knowledge I can go forward and truly start being a well educated and well rounded individual and teacher. I have add this into my "time line" of do's and don't through out the program and I feel as though this has definitely been one of the more positive weeks.

Video Blog

I LOVE school house rock! What a fun way for the students to be engaged and learn! Heck if I still like it and I'm this old you can bet that younger kids will as well! I really think that using lyrics to memorize things is a great source! However, just because you know what the words are it doesn't mean that you understand the material in the lyric. I think that if they could "re vamp" the school house rock series and make it more modern even more students would be engaged. They have these videos for all things, like making a bill, learning fractions and etc. You could create a map quest using the school house rock that would be very educational. My favorite part about this video was the sounds. Like I said I had to watch it a few times before I actually got the understanding and I wasn't just hearing words. I feel as though it would be the same for my future students. I would also take it to the next level and have my students come up with there own song. Such as a song for remembering the planets, or fractions, or English rules.

What, So What, Now What

What:
This week we finished our web quests. I really enjoyed this assignment just wished that we would have had more time to complete it. It was a very simple way to incorporate technology into the classroom. Also this week we have been learning about management techniques and classroom instruction as well. While learning about each technique it has only reassured me how important technology in the classroom is now days. By keeping the students excited and entertained it makes classroom management a lot easier! I also liked that we were able to work with groups in this class and with this assignment. I feel like the more ideas you can receive the better the product will be.
Hmm...what else did we do this week, arts class was great fun! We were learning about how to incorporate the arts into real life lesson plans. One group did a terrific job in teaching about waves using dance.
So What:
Now that I have completed a web quest it will be a great way to have lessons and assignments in my teaching lifetime. The web quest will also allow for parents and other teachers to review and understand the work being assigned. I think parents often cannot help a student with homework because they don't understand the principle or assignment. Web quest seems to be a perfect way to allow everyone to view and get a good understanding. As a teacher it is important to stay current with the students needs, desires and curriculum. Technology is a great way to allow for all of these areas to be accomplished. Other teachers can gain ideas from my web quest and vice verse.
Now What:
Now that I have all of this knowledge I think it would be terrific for me to start making mini lessons and web quests now; that way when I start to teach hopefully I will have quite a few lessons prepared. I feel as though the more organized and knowledgeable I am the better I can teach my students. By using technology in the classroom I can promote numerous things to my students. I'm also still working on my collage of "my life through school". So far it looks AWESOME!!! I really think this will be a great way for my students to see I learn too, and how fun it can be and also that yea sometimes it's hard work and not as fun as other times, but that it is well worth it!

Video Reflection Surface Computing

Wow so cool! I want one now. I think that this would be really cool to have in a classroom, ha yea if we were all rich! Honestly the first thing that came to my mind while watching the video was great game night but without having to clean it up! You can all sit around the coffee table and play the games such as uno or something to that affect without having a big old mess to clean up. But not back to using the surface computing in the classroom. I believe that if it was possible to have one in the school what a great way for students to learn information. For younger students it allows sensory skills to be mastered while learning information. I can definitely see how this could be a great use in society today. Who knows maybe by the time I retire that will be the "new" computers inside the classroom. And it would be cool if they made one huge desk which everyone would use at the same time and could be working on different things. I think this is a very cool invention and I'm sure we will hear more about it in the future.

What, So what, Now what

WHAT:
I absolutely loved class today! Learning about the webquest how simple and fun they can be was great! I think that this is going to be an awesome way to teach my studnets. As I met with my co operating teacher today Mr. Kelly I asked if it would be possible to do one of these for his class and he said sure! I think it is going to be a great activity for me to incoporate into class. While I have been playing around with making one I'm becoming more aware of the fun creative ways to introduce a web quest. Also something I learned today is about the funding of Utah education and how it is just going to get worse. In this up coming year our school district has to make an 5% budget cut! Where that's going to come from is most likely teacher salary...yea that sucks!

So What: Well with the web quest I think this is a great way to do easy and fun lessons. It allows students to use technology...one of the features they love and also communicate with other students. By using a web quest I will be able to save money on paper, also the students should be engaged and I should be able to connect with them better! As far as the funding position goes all I know is I'm in big trouble! It's a good thing I'm not teaching for the money hahaha. Oh yea and also by using the web quest I will be able to produce more lessons and fun activities instead of just reading out of what the kids see as the boring old text book.

Now What:
As I mentioned before I am going to be creating a lesson for the 6th grade class in which I will be teaching. First of all I think the web quest is going to be a great way for these students to use computers (something they all enjoy) as well as being able to communicate with the other students. In order to educate our students we need to make sure they are educated in every area possible...including technology! I plan on starting my web quest asap, the more I do the better I will be at creating them and the more my students will want to participate because they will be fun.

Video Reflection

Why let our students blog?

Before I watched the video clip I though gosh I wouldn't want my students to blog, anyone can see that and that's more of an adult thing. However I my mind was quickly changed after watching this video and talking to my little sister whose classroom does blog. I think letting the students blog is a great way to use team work, communication, to keep the students learning and engaged. It also allows for a lot of creative and they grow with technology! I do however think there are some flaws with allowing students to blog. Some parents aren't comfortable with their child using the internet without them there, have worries that anyone can see there blog and many others. After looking through my own blog i have found you can have it be private and none of the public can see it. Also after talking to my little sister who blogs in her classroom she loves it! They post assignments on there, communicate with the teacher after school hours and with other students. She also mentioned that having the homework be posted on there saves on paper and allows our mom to help her easier. Her teacher posts the homework and detail instructions so parents can help if necessary. I think this is going to be a great tool which I can incorporate into my classroom and into the proper grade level!

Video Reflection

What, So What, Now what

What?
Classes this week have been very hectic for me! I'm learning so much about education I feel like my brain will explode! A couple of key elemts that i've learned this week that I feel are important to know and some offer possiblities of use in the classroom. In foundations we learned about Utah Federal Government envolvement inside of education. It seems as though they run a big portion of educational dissision being made. However they only provide about 8% of the funding towards education, that's not weird right? I just find that very odd. In creative arts we've been talking about music and how to incorporated that into the classroom. This is a very hard thing for me because I do find the music to be distracting, but it can have great impact! Also making lesson plans is no longer foreign to me. It has become a lot easier to create a reasonable lesson plan. I LOVE my social studies class, that for me has been really fun to learn cools ways to incorporate about history by using creative arts methods.

So What?
Now that I am learning about all these different aspects in education I can apply them to my classroom! I plan to provide lesson plans that are fun and engaging to all students. I plan on having some of the following activities: singing, drama (plays), lots of science projects, and the use of technology. It is important for me as a teacher to learn all of these methods of teaching in order to keep my students engaged. Also I hope to become a good resource for my future colleagues and that I can go to them for great ideas as well! I believe that as long as I can get excited and have fun with a lesson my students will react the same way!

Now What?
I plan to use blogging, and hands on experiences inside of my classroom! I plan on being a fun, organized, knowledgeable teacher! In order to accomplish my goals in become an amazing teacher I need to stay focused and keep awesome notes! In my "time line" that I am currently making I have made sure to incorporate all of the great ideas which the teachers have given us. As a teacher one of the main things I will use will be power points, great way for the students to stay engaged.

What, So What, Now What

What:
This week we have been working on our classroom websites. I really actually enjoyed this assignment. It was time consuming, but wait isn't being a teacher too? While doing my classroom website some of the key elements I enjoyed doing was planning out lessons/homework assignments to do. It not only allowed me to learn the technology of the class but to think of actual lesson plans which I will use in my classroom. I am however learning and trying to come up with some cool ways to be able to incorporate this technology and website into my future classroom. Something that I have learned this week is that if you know how to use the Google docs, sites, and presentations it sure makes group projects a lot easier. It is easy to make corrections as well as communicate from one person to another. I liked the fact we build our own calendar and that if we desired to build one for our future classroom it would be very simple.

So What:
This assignment means that I have had yet another way to express myself and help my students learn through technology. This is a great way for me to stay organized and be able to communicate with other teachers. This is a great way to invite students to be engaged and learn. We are learning all these techniques and "short cuts" so we can help our students learn better, stay engaged, and have an easier than ever process. By using the Google docs, online calender and emails the schools and teachers could save a tremendous amount of money in ink and paper. Now days most people have computers and the internet. For those people who do not have a computer, internet, or email other accommodations can be made. This assignment has already helped me not only in this course but my other courses that I am currently enrolled in. For other classes I have group presentations and Google docs is a great way to go through and edit our work and communicate. For life in general this assignment has enabled me to receive knowledge to use for community letters, religious beliefs and much more. To my colleagues this techonology means an easier way to communicate. Once teaching and being part of a team there may be programs in which we can communicate and write up using the google docs.

Now What?
Now that I know how to use google docs I will be able to help my students in school better. Because students are involved in media, and technology so much it is necessary for me to be as well. By me learning about this it means my future students will hopefully learn better because we can all connect and do a lot of things with technology, which is what they see as fun! This information is defiantly changing the type of teacher I will be. I cam more willing than ever to incorporate the technologies into my classroom. You hear all the time how technology is "corrupting" students. However if used properly and guide the students this technology is such a great resource. In my future classroom I plan to have actives where the students not only see technology but get to use it for assignments. One assignment that I would provide for a 5th grade class would be a project about Utah. These students will be placed into groups of four. They will draw from a hat what there topic of Utah will be. From there they can correspond through using Google docs to create there project. I think this would be a great assignment for students to use technology and have fun with it! Hopefully this would keep them interested enough and use technology to learn and do good!

Video #3 (Fractions)

I loved this video! Yes it was super corny and I think you could change it a little bit but I think kids would really enjoy the beat of it. However I do see a few problems with this video. While I watched it three times I can to realize I had no idea what it was "really" saying. Yes I know what improper fractions are already but I had a hard time focusing because so much was going on in the video, numbers flying and the music in the background. For some students this would be great, but I'm thinking for most it wouldn't. Students would be more interested in dancing around than listening and actually learning it. I did a little research after watching this video and found that one way of learning is through music...I can remember words to a song that i've heard multiple times, however do I understand the story or meaning? If I was to use this video in my classroom there would also have to be some other ways to teach the same information. A couple of things that I thought would be fun for the students to do is for me to teach them a lesson about fractions. When I'm done go back through with the students and pick out the key points and list them on the board. I would then show them this video. The students at this point should be intrigued laughing and ready to do more. As a class we're going to come up with our own rap using the words we wrote on the board. Hopefully coming up with it as a class the students will understand what fractions are and can be a song we use often. Don't forget to type it up later that day and laminate it so it can be used often. Side coaching will be necessary for this assignment. While watching the movie that is what I thought of, ways I can incorporate it into my classroom and make it fun but learn at the same time.

What, So what, Now What?

What:
This week we have been focusing on making a welcome letter for all of our students to view. Doing this as a group makes it more fun for me! Some things that crossed my mind while doing this assignment and how I could make it fun and exciting were as follows: having a theme, lots of pictures, colors, good explanations, making it known your classroom has the desire for it to be a fun, and safe environment. As I mentioned before this assignment was fun for me because it was a group project, however it was also hard doing it in partners and only being able to communicate over the Google doc. Another thing I know I struggled with was being able to keep it to one page. There are so many things you want the students and parents to know it's hard to break it down to one page, or a paragraph a person. I really liked that is was in Google doc and that made it even easier than an email because you didn't have to have an attachment a million times.
So What:
I have learned that this is what a teacher will do (not that I didn't know before but now I'm certain). As for me wanting to be a kindergarten teacher this assignment will be key for me and getting my studnets evolved and parents. I feel that by using this assignment I can and will get the students engaged! This is important to know how to use the Google docs, in some ways it is ten times easier than email, writing, and conversational. As the years progress so does the technology and to be able to reach your students you need to be using technology constantly in classroom!
Now What:
As the weeks progress in this course I hope to have learned more ways to incorporate the technology aspects into my classroom. Not only do I want to use technology with my students but this will be a great way to communicate with the other faculty members and my team members. As of right now I'm putting together a collage of all the things we have done in this course so far. It doesn't consist of a lot but I can tell by the time I'm through this is something I'm going to enjoy. Hopefully by practicing using all of the fun technology activities I can get creative and think of ways my kindergartners can use technology as well.

Video Blog #2

It interests me that during this video that it states using technology can impact learning and help students to excel more in education. I've always believed that a student learns best in a fun environment and safe one. Most students in this day and age rely on technology. It is important that the education system stays up to date with such things. In order for students to be engaged and succeed not only academically but social technology has to be used. Technology has a significance impact on teaching. I agree that money does become a concern in technology and schools have to make a choice on how and where technology will be used. In order to understand where to put that money you need to know what placements are needed and where the technology can help improve that area. I've learned that it is necessary to have technology usage in your classroom and that it has got to be consistent. The technology we've been given can definitely help with students and academics.

Meta cognition we need to have an opportunity for kids to think, produce something that engages and empowers students to learn. Technology is a great way for this to happen. In order for students to succeed they need to work with something they know, see as enjoyable and yet a way a teacher can still teach. Computers are a great resource to use.

Outside educational field, public can perceive that technology should be used more easily and have greater results than there is right now. Techonolgy is complex, this is true. However when it is used for positive and used correctly can be a great tool to learning. I feel as though yes sometimes technology can be complex and take a little time, it is worth it to use.

What, So what, Now what

What:
So far just with what little we have done in this course I can tell I will love it. I like the fact that when I mentioned that you would bring us back down to reality for our "ideal classroom" you basically said no, anything is possible. What I have learned so far is that my classroom will be as fun, energetic, safe and organized as I choose it to be. Along with that I have been thinking of new ideas for the classroom and ways that I can accomplish the "vision" which I have.
So What:
I feel that as long as I'm trying to find new, creative was for my classroom my kids will excel. If I never reflect back and try to make things even better my students cannot grow and excel as much.
Teaching is important to me, even more making teaching/learning fun is important. By realizing the "what's" I know why it is so important to me.
Now what:
Now I'm going to start making a collage of my time here in school. I plan to use this in my classroom. I feel that students often times feel like they have all the work and it's so boring and blah blah blah. I'm here to show them I to have been in there position and this is how I conquered school. I plan to show the collage of my good times as well as bad times. As far as with this class I'm going to continue learning and excelling:)

Ideal Classroom

My ideal classroom would be something like this....I love decorations, but organized, so my room will have lots of decorations on the walls as well as I enjoy watching children express themselves so there will be art work from the students placed about the room and displayed. The students desks will be in tables not rows as I find most students enjoy and can learn just as well from being grouped with their peers as well as in rows. Most importantly I want my students in a safe environment where they can feel protected and excel the best possible.

I like having order in the classroom so I will have boxes for assignments to go into and papers to turn into students. I see pictures on my desk, calendars spread about the room, a birthday chart, a reading area. I would love to build a "tree house" in a corner where the students can go and read or decorate and make it a classroom project. This area will be full of books organized neatly from historical, science, non-fiction, fiction etc.

I expect my parents to be envolved inside and outside of the classroom. I believe that if a student receives just learning at school they will not excel as much as possible. In order for students to constantly excel parents need to help them along the way until they are old enough to push themselves.

While watching this video my mind was thinking a million miles an hour. How crazy it was to me that the internet would be charged per time. I actually think this would be a great thing to do. I think it would help more children to go out and get exercise, go to the library and read and use other sources besides the computer. Not only for that purpose but I do feel like many children and adults are addicted to online games, and internet services. It would interest me to see how much a person would actually spend. Would it be similar to a cell phone? Would you still be required to pay the monthly internet fee plus your minutes fee? I also had mixed feelings about this subject. We live in a free country and therefor if someone wants to spend a lot of time on the internet that's there choice. I went back and forth about where I stood on this topic and came to the conclusion that I think the "experiment" is a great idea.
